Hello, here's my list! I'll have more to add at a later date. :)

The Grudge (the Japanese one, not the American remake)
Romper Stomper
An American Werewolf In London
The Nightmare Before Christmas (brand new, still sealed)

August 27th, 2006

Jurassic Park III
Sleuth
Tomb Raider

By the way, gentle reminder - we've got a few members but only three swap lists so far - please don't wait till you see something you like to post your own swap list, get it up sooner rather than later and that will encourage others.

Hi everyone,

Have tweaked the rules again just a little, once again. We've got three people including myself who have posted lists - how are other lists going? We're not going to see much activity until the master list (posted dated, so always the first thing you should see when you click on the community (if you're not reading via your Flist) is a bit longer.

Also, promoted the community on LJ_UK a second time, just to catch people at a more reasonable hour.

Somebody believed DVD swapping was exactly the same as piracy/mp3 sharing. I disagree, quite strongly, to be honest. As far as I understand it, there is nothing illegal about the exchange of paid-for property. Of course, the DVD companies WANT you to buy your own disc instead of swapping them, so they're not delighted about the idea, but it's not that much different to eBay.

That's my point of view anyway.

Let's all have a heated debate!

Laughter is the best medicine
All of these are in excellent condition.
The ones with *'s next to the title means that they are ex-rental discs. I buy them from my local 'Choices', who sell off excess stock on the cheap. The only difference from normal is that the spine of the box has a small barcode sticker on. It might also say "Rental Copy" either across the top of the box, or on the disc itself. They are otherwise normal.

The Quiet American*
The Shawshank Redemption (1-disc version that you have to turn over halfway through)
Gosford Park*
Ice Age
H.M.S. Defiant
The Thin Red Line
The Good Girl*
Gandhi
Lost In Translation

I'm usually after comedies, dramas or new releases.

Update to earlier entry: the post tarting us in the above mentioned community has now been approved! Welcome to anyone finding their way here from C_P.

Off topic ice-breaker for anyone who wants to participate; can you remember the first DVD that you bought? Mine would have been a joint purchase of The Matrix and Doctor Who: Remembrance of the Daleks in early March, 2001. Even then, I didn't have a proper DVD player, just a new PC with a DVD-ROM drive.
Right, well, after an initial positive reaction it's all gone quiet. I've linked on LJ_UK, although considering it was late at night, I wonder if a lot of people missed it.

So far, I've put my list up to get things started, but no one else has - I must stress, we might spend a while building up a number of titles before any swaps take place, and I'll do a "Master List" for easy reference.

Meanwhile, are we happy with the rules on the User Info page? Has anything obvious been missed? Is anything unnecessary?

Does anyone with the necessary Customisation skills fancy tarting the place up a bit, if I make them a co-mod? Especially if they can make and implement banners.

Hi, already we've got a few members which is fantastic - I thought I'd get the ball rolling.

ALL IN EXCELLENT CONDITION UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED

I have to swap

The Tomorrow People - S2 Boxed Set (3 discs) contains "The Blue And The Green," one of the most popular stories

The Tomorrow People - S3 Boxed Set (3 discs) Peter Davison in his first (and arguably most terrifying!) role.

The Tomorrow People: The Slaves of Jedikiah

The Tomorrow People: The Medusa Strain

The Batman Collection
Four Amaray cases in a slipcase; the Burton and Schumacher films. These are vanilla releases.

Vanilla Sky - Tom Cruise

CSI: S1, eps 1-12 - (card boxset, has minor shelfwear)

The Hound of the Baskervilles - The recent BBC adaption with Richard Roxburgh, featuring Richard E Grant

I'm mainly interested in comedy and some cult TV programmes (not necessarily just SF/fantasy), plus various films from my childhood.

I'm based in the Isle of Man, but postage is only a few pence extra.

Welcome!

Hi, welcome to the community - please start a new post to introduce yourself, list the DVDs you have to swap, and if there's anything specific you're after in return or if you're happy to just see what others have got.

Happy swapping!
